‘Sangria’ Red Wine Fruit Punch is one of my all time favorite summer drinks. I have tried countless versions of this smooth, fruity cocktail and I now have a tried and trusted recipe that is a hit every time. Bursting with juicy peaches and crisp, tart apple this ‘Sangria’ is bright with orange and lemon, silky smooth to drink and has just the right balance of sweetness. Many versions of this classic Spanish red wine punch will include a liquor. I prefer the more easy drinking version without liquor, especially if you are serving this in the height of summer when the temperature is high! Make this your go-to the next time you have a crowd over and the grill on.
Red Wine Fruit Punch
Red Wine Fruit Punch
- Cook Time: 20 mins prep 3 hours to chill
- Persons: 4
- Difficulty: Easy
- Ingredients
- 1 bottle of red wine (I use ‘tempranillo’)
- 4 oranges (3 for juicing, 1 for slicing)
- 1 lemon
- 1 peach
- 1 green apple (I use Granny Smith)
- 4 tbsp sugar
- 1 cup of soda (or Sprite/Fanta)
- Two handful of ice cubes
- Instructions
- Start by juicing 1 lemon and 3 oranges. Strain the juice through a sieve to remove pips and large pieces of pulp.
- Add sugar and whisk to dissolve.
- Peel and dice 1 peach and 1 green apple.
- Slice up 1 orange into half moon shapes.
- Pour red wine into a jug or bowl. Add all the fruit and the juice and sugar mixture. Stir well.
- Leave to chill in refrigerator for at least 3 hours.
- Before serving add 1 cup of soda or your soft drink of choice and 2 handfuls of ice cubes. Stir well.
- Serve and enjoy!
Top Tips
- Are you a fan of cinnamon? Many versions of this include warm cinnamon. Add a stick of cinnamon into the red wine mixture before you chill it in the refrigerator.
- Although I prefer not to add liquor, this is frequently served with a good glug of Brandy or Cognac and will add more depth and warmth to the final flavor.
